Description: Paulus Jovius. The annotations placed beneath the real-life photos of well-known men. (The inscriptions under the genuine pictures of the well-known men, which are on display in the Giovio Museum in Como.) Roman inscriptions from tombstones and sculptures gathered by the Giovio brothers, on display at the Giovio Museum in Como, Italy, are an interesting collection. Lorenzo Torrentino, Firenze, 1552. translated by Hippolito Orio Ferrarese from Latin into Vulgar. Size: 210 x 135 mm, or 5 3/4 by 8 1/2"; [12], 245, [3] pp. 18th-century Italian calf binding with text. Excellent condition; some foxing. Frontispiece featuring a panorama of Florence inside a figurative frame.
