Leather bound, spine repaired. Parallel text Latin-French. Contains in the appendix "Advertissement apologetique" (3 sheets), "in which Benoist vigorously defends himself against his opponents" (Darlow-M.). This second volume includes the Old Testament, which is taken from the Book of Psalms, to the New Testament. - Benoist wrote a publication in 1566 arguing for a French translation of the Calvinist Geneva Bible. oppose the Catholic Bible and his translation, which was quickly denounced by the Sorbonne for heretical tendencies, along with four other Parisian publishers/printers. remained steady all along. Excellent condition; two of the leaves have tears fixed, and the other two have faded dampstains. with the Chigi family's coat of arms covered by the bookplate Cardinal's hat. Fabio Chigi (later Pope Alexander VII, created a cardinal in 1651) or one of his two nephews (Flavio and Sigismondo), whom Alexander elevated to the cardinal rank following his election in 1655, may have possessed it.
