Didaci Stellae Hispani, ordinis minorrum regulatio observantiae De modus concionandi liber item, explicato in psalm. VIXXXVI. Super bright Babylonian. Cologne, Birckmannica; 2 lvs., 123 lvs. (1586). Original blind-tooled pigskin over hardwood boards; front cover dated 1592; original owner's initials (MMAS). Anthology featuring two 16th-century works on rhetoric and writing, including: 1) Treatise on the Art of Letter by Simon Verepaeus (1522–1598), Plantin edition, 1588. Verepaeus was a Dutch Catholic priest whose writings on prayer, Latin grammar, and Latin writing were widely misplaced until the early 19th century. 2) A dissertation on the craft of preaching written by the Spanish mystic Diego de Estella (1524–1578). There is also a commentary on Psalm 136 in the work. size: 4 1/2 by 6 3/4"; very good condition; slight pigskin soiling; text in Latin; title page of the second title with a fault on the margin
