Latin text Justus Lipsius was a Flemish Catholic philosopher, humanist, and philologist who lived from 1547 to 1606. In order to resurrect old Stoicism in a way that would be consistent with Christianity, Lipsius wrote a number of books. De Constantia (On Constancy) is the most well-known of these. His kind of stoicism shaped the ideas of many modern philosophers, leading to the development of the Neostoic movement. He was a professor at the universities at Leuven, Jena, and Leiden.
