Bartolomeo Sacchi, also called Platina, was an Italian Renaissance humanist writer and gastronome who lived from 1421 until 1481. Prior to receiving the Gonzagas' long-term patronage—including that of the young cardinal Francesco—Platina began his career as a soldier working for Condottieri. He prepared a family history for Francesco. He attended the same Florence as other humanists and members of the governing Medici family, studying under the Byzantine humanist philosopher John Argyropulos.
