A Flemish Catholic priest, Cornelius Cornelii à Lapide SJ (born Cornelis Cornelissen van den Steen; 1567–1637). He was a professor of theology, a Jesuit, and an exegete of scripture who devoted his life to studying the Bible. During his lifetime, he wrote commentary on every book of the Bible included in the Catholic canon, which was already quite well-liked.
