Description: The French geometries or the Asean practice of learning without hindering oneself... measurements - Jean de Beaulieu, Charles de Sercy, Paris, 1676.For individuals without a mathematical background, French geometry is an easy way to learn the survey of figures that are accessible and inaccessible, measurements, and a survey of fortifications and various types of constructions. It also includes an arithmetic key for all of its operations. The method of reducing circles, segments, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas, and conical and cylindrical scission to their perfect square and applying it to the measurement of curves and lines in civil, naval, and military architecture for the benefit of scholars is known as the "squaring of the circle." This unusual geometry treatise is in its first edition. It has an engraved title, bands with engravings in copper and wood, and four inset copper plates, two of which are included in the pagination. The first three plates show geometry, while the fourth one deals with the squaring of the circle. A few outdated marginal notes. Title pages with handling traces and mild waterstaining on several leaves, as well as the original owner's handwritten ex-libris (1761), a surveyor of the management of Waters and Forest. The final leaf, repaired with a hole in the margin. mostly in decent shape. Perfectly conditioned modern half-calf binding. Three sections in one book, measuring 5 by 7 1/3', with page errors. [12] lvs, 103, [3] pp., 24 pp., [6] pp., and 38 (i.e.40) pp. I:p. First part: 101 numbered 110; second part: 2 sequences 12–13; and page 7 numbered 17. Prior to the second, the third portion is bound. Finalized. Written in French
