This is the first edition of this rare story of Barbary pirates capturing an American ship. The study offers a helpful history of Algeria in addition to describing US involvement in the Mediterranean War. An account of the American ship President being captured by Barbary pirates is also included. Charles Fleischmann III's bookplate attached to the front free endpaper. Charles Fleischmann III, the great-grandson of the company's founder, established the Fleischmann Yeast Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1868. Following its promotion during the 1876 Centennial Exposition, the Fleischmann Yeast Company rose to prominence as the world's leading yeast producer.
