The frame's 137 cm breadth makes it a hugely astounding size. Battle between French cavalry dragoons in full retreat during World War 1. "After the Charge" is the title. The Great Retreat (French: Grande Retraite), also known as the retreat from Mons, was the protracted withdrawal to the River Marne by the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and the French Fifth Army in August and September 1914. The scene depicts WW1 French Dragoons who were massacred during the opening battle and was the start of the retreat. on a canvas, oil. Signed by well-known British artist E. A.
