Description: THE HOLY BIBLE. London: Company of Stationers, 1649 Size 6 1/2 by 8 3/4" A-2Q8, 2R4, 2S2, 3A-3Q8; lacking Dd4-5 (from Psalms), otherwise complete; this edition was not published with the Apocrypha; however, this copy is unique in that it has an Apocrypha from another edition inserted between 2S1 and 2S2 (i.e. between the Old and New Testaments). Bound in period paneled calf, and bound with a Book of Common Prayer and Speed's Genealogies at front and Psalms at rear (those three are all defective). FRONT PASTEDOWN SIGNED BY SIMEON BALDWIN (1761-1851, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1803 to 1805). The front pastedown is also signed by his daughter Rebecca (and dated 1851, the year of her father's death) and his son Roger. The Geneva notes and Junius' annotations on Revelation are included in this Bible for the first time ("never before set forth") in the King James edition. Herbert observes that this book's appearance mimics that of the beloved Geneva quarto edition. 620 Herbert. Front board split, chipped in the spine. Contents with multiple tears and chips, including about seven chips that cost some text (up to several lines in one instance), a few archival tape repairs, somewhat brittle edges, a few small stains, and two leaves that were formerly attached but later separated, resulting in some text loss.
