Year/Century: 17th century
Language: Italian
Subject: Illustrated
Binding: Vellum
Description: Ancient and modern Rome Battista Molo, Roma, 1687 [24], 456, 256, 142 pages. missing a few plate leaves in the third portion with the number: pages 21–24, 33–38, 45–46, and 51–60 Extensively illustrated with woodcuts on both sides (8vo), measuring 16.4x10.5 cm (6½x4"). The volume on Rome's art and architecture has a damaged and mostly detached binding made of semi-limp vellum. This particular copy stands out because it seems to be an attempt at prudish censorship made by an early reader (or authority?). The reader eliminated leaves that featured pictures of naked statues without erasing the text; in other cases, the pictures were partially erased or obscured with ink.
