Description: Libri XLIIII Justini ex Trogi Pompei historiis externis. Birckmann, Cologne; 1582; 8vo: 4 by 6 1/3" [32] + 304 pp. Vellum binding, dated 1593, with the characters Z*H*D*H blind-tooled. Franciscus Modius Brugensis (1556–1597) provided commentary. Latin text. The title page bears an old library stamp. The title page's printer is marked in red ink. There is some vellum soiling and browning. Latin author Justin (Latin: Marcus Junianus Justinus Frontinus; c. second century) was a Roman Empire resident. He is the author of Historiarum Philippicarum libri XLIV, which he describes in his preface as an assemblage of the most noteworthy and fascinating excerpts from Pompeius Trogus' extensive Historiae philippicae et totius mundi origines et terrae situs, which was composed during the reign of Augustus. The 11th EB observes that a wealth of important information was included in his past. and that the style is discernible and occasionally lovely even though it is far from faultless."
