Latin text. Born from an Orientalist family, Johannes Buxtorf (1564–1629) was a renowned Hebraist who taught Hebrew for 39 years at Basel University. He was referred to as the "Master of the Rabbis". His enormous work, De Synagoga Judaica (1st ed., 1603), meticulously records early modern German Jewish life and traditions. Johannes Buxtorf the Younger's father was Buxtorf.
