Description: NITIDISSIMIS FIGURIS ILLUSTRATI, DE FUNERIBUS ROMANORUM, pp. NICOLAI RIGALTII ACCESSIT ET FUNUS PARASITICUM. [FUNERALS OF THE ROMANS] by Johann Lugduni Batavorum Kirchmann (1672). One volume with three parts Dimensions: 3 x 5 3/4" [48 including front].641, 24 pages; 4 plates; -641 [= 649]-[45]-[2 bl.], [8]-64 - Significant early research on Roman burial customs conducted by German academic Kirchmann (1575-1643). Romeyn De Hooghe provided four folding plates and a frontispiece for the illustration. The funeral oration Kirchmann gave for Dutch jurist and geographer Paul Merula (1558–1607) is presented in the second section. The third is a parody on corpse parasites by Nicolas Rigault, a French librarian and classical scholar who lived from 1577 to 1654. Manuscript title on the spine of the original vellum document. A few slight, fading dampstains.
