Known by many names, including Saint Albert the Great or Albert of Cologne, German Dominican friar, philosopher, physicist, and bishop Albertus Magnus[a] OP lived from approximately 1200 to 1280.
He was recognized throughout his lifetime as Doctor universalis and Doctor expertus, and later in life, the nickname Magnus was added to his name. He was later declared a Catholic saint.
According to academics like Joachim R. Söder and James A. Weisheipl, he was the best German theologian and philosopher of the Middle Ages.
