Latin text The Latin collection of proverbial wisdom and morality known as The Distichs of Cato (Latin: Catonis Disticha, most widely known simply as Cato) was written in the third or fourth century AD by an unidentified author. The most widely used Latin textbook in the Middle Ages was The Cato, which was also highly regarded as a moral guide. Benjamin Franklin used Cato, a popular Latin teaching tool, as late as the eighteenth century. It was translated into other languages and was one of the most well-known works of the Middle Ages.
