Descritpion: 1 A significant oil portrait of a Dutch merchant and gentleman from the early 17th century. A three-quarter length front profile perspective is used to depict a rich, bearded Dutch merchant gentleman. The extravagant broad white lace collar cuffs and luxurious black clothing he is sporting—the finest vogue at the time—indicate that the sitter is very important and wealthy in Dutch society. He is standing, looking directly at the viewer, with one arm resting on his hip and the other leaning over a table. He had dark hair and a well-kept beard. You can see that he is sporting a linked necklace and a gold ring on his little finger.
