Description: Large 17th Century Dutch Old Master account of Spanish warships opening fire of small Dutch ships off the Dutch coast, oil on panel. Unique early marine painting from the Eighty Years Wars. Taken from an unusually high perspective and with intricate detail in the waves and ships typical of paintings of Willaers and Porcellis from the period. Would be significantly enhanced with a professional clean. Excellent provenance suggesting it would benefit from further research. presented in an antique gilt frame.
