Gorgeous leather binding featuring three raised bands, embellished with gold on the spine and boards. 4.5 by 6.5" (11.5 x 17 cm); in very good shape. Pages (66), 427, (1). Originating in Cres, Franciscus Patricius (also known as Francesco Patrizi; 1529–1597) was a physicist and philosopher from the Republic of Venice. He was well-known for opposing Aristotelianism and standing up for Platonism. According to what he tells us in his Paralleli militari, he is descended from the Patrizi family of Siena. His national ancestry is portrayed as both Italian and Croatian in different sources. He is generally known as Franjo Petris or Frane Petric in Croatia. Petris was the Cres name for his family.
