Description: This is a classic Victorian Genre landscape with a courting couple in a Highland setting. Painted circa 1880 the subject would have been a very popular narrative due to the increasing interest in all things Scottish after the Royal Families buying of Balmoral Castle in Scotland. That event leads to an increased interest in all Scottish works of art, hence the young couple in a Highland mountain setting. The painting has been well painted by the artist who had captured the subtle tones of the sky and the reflection on the water very well. The painter was active during the latter part of the 19th century and mostly painted landscape and river scenes. This is an oil on canvas and has been framed in a vintage English hand-made frame.
