Description: Beautiful huge oil on canvas portrait by John R. Koopman from the early 20th century depicting a guy, maybe Sherlock Holmes, smoking at night next to a spaniel on a hillside. Fantastic large-scale image with a low full moon in the horizon and the man lighting his pipe.Possibly a scene from The Adventures of Shoscombe Old Place, this painting by Koopmans depicting Sherlock Holmes was acquired by its former owner from a fine art dealer in the United Kingdom. Afterwards, a fine art specialist also usually identified him as Holmes. superb original condition, gilded frame, signed bottom left. Dimensions: 44" x 35.5" with frame.
