Description: Large 19th London Thames river scene of gentleman watching a professional rower scull along the river, oil on canvas by George Vicat Cole. Excellent quality and condition rare early sporting scene on the subject of rowing. Signed and dated 1887. Though Vicat Cole was on of the leading English landscape painters who exhibited at the Royal Academy views around Hampshire and Surrey he spent most of his life in London. It is likely this work, titled "sketch", was of personal interest to the painter and is likely painted in the Greenwich area during the period. Framed. Measurements: 38" x 27" framed approx
