Description: Exceptional late 18th-century English landscape. Very much in the style of the Dutch 17th-century old masters, this painting has all the quality and delicate brushstrokes of that period of art. English landscape painting was in its infancy during the 18th century and this piece shows the beginning of how different the English landscapes were from the Dutch or French landscapes. The treatment of the trees is very reminiscent of the early brush strokes of Edward Williams or J.B Crome, two well-known English landscape painters. Also, the work of Alexander Nasmyth has a similar feel to this piece. The painting is framed in its original hand-carved English pine frame which has been restored to its former glory.
