Description: oil on canvas ship study of the Norwegian ship Sorlandet from the early 20th century by Elling Tronnes. outstanding ship side profile study. would benefit from a quick clean. autographed and framed. Remains of the artist's label may be seen on the stretcher. Signed E. Tronnes (lower right), and engraved behind with "Presentation inscription from the artist Christmas 1940." The 499 ton Srlandet, which was completed in 1927, has spent her entire life as a sale teaching ship with the exception of a brief period during World War II when she served as a lodging ship for U-Boat sailors. She is still afloat and instructing cadets after undergoing various restorations, most recently in 2012. Dimensions: approx. 29" x 24" framed
