Description: Large 19th Century Scottish portrait of Mary Brown Forsyth later Howieson, oil on canvas. Excellent quality portrait of the pretty young sitter with ringlets in her hair at a study with a wax sealer letter on top. Some minor marks but generally good for its age. Presented in its original antique gilt frame. Measurements: 39" x 34" framed approx Footnote: A label verso identifies the sitter as Mary Brown Forsyth, b. 4 June 1810, Markinch, d. 11 July 1897, Kirkcaldy; m. James Howieson 12 Sept 1859 Markinch. A further label notes that the portrait was made with Forsyth was 19, and that her husband James Howieson was a sea captain.
