Description: Fine large 18th century French portrait inscribed as Countess Jeanne Dubarry wearing a silk blue dress, oil on canvas. Beautiful half length portrait of the lady in excellent condition and presented in a unique ebonised octagonal frame. Dubarry was the Maitresse-en-titre (Head Mistress) of King Louis XV. She would later become one of the victims of the reign of terror during the French Revolution. Old label inscription at the bottom referencing the artist Drouais. The portrait depicts the lady seating in an interior resting upon a blue drape with her hair unpowdered. Measurements: 92cm x 73cm framed approx
