Description: During the 19th century, Edmond Van Der Meulen painted an oil on panel depicting an American Bulldog smoking a pipe. Early significant and exquisitely painted head profile of an American Bulldog by the well-known dog painter Van Der Meulen from the 19th century. Outstanding detail and an early depiction of the breed in art. Unsigned but attached to another work that is both personalized and inscribed, "a monami C Petit" (to my buddy C Petit). implying that it is a personal portrait of his friend's cherished pet that was given as a gift. One of two bulldogs that are framed, the other being the other. Dimensions: around 18" x 15.5" when framed.
