Early significant and exquisitely painted head profile of an American Bulldog by the well-known dog painter Van Der Meulen from the 19th century. Superb detail and an early depiction of the breed in art. A monami C Petit (to my buddy C Petit) is written alongside the artist's signature on the piece. implying that it is a personal portrait of his friend's cherished pet that was given as a gift. Framed, wearing a tuxedo, smoking a pipe, and one of a pair with another bulldog. Dimensions: around 18" x 15.5" when framed.
