Description: Oil on canvas, large-scale Old Master painting of Katherine Stanhope, Countess of Chesterfield (1609–1667). Portrait of Thomas Wootton's daughter, Baroness Wootton, standing in a grotto, holding a palm leaf, and dressed elaborately in gold satin. on the verso. Stanhope gained notoriety at the time for being a mistress of portraitist Van Dyck, a rival and friend of fellow Dutch painter Lely. presented in a wood frame with gold trim. good condition for its age, however the canvas protrudes from the frame in several places. Dimensions: About 55" x 45.5" framed
