Year: 17th century
Size: 29.5" x 23"
Medium: Oil
Description: Large oil on panel portrait of Saint James the Great by a Dutch Old Master from the 17th century. Excellently done representation of the first apostle to be martyred and the patron saint of Spain. However, a dendrochonology report by Ian Tyers, 2015 on the panel of this work dates back as early as 1603 suggesting this may be an earlier work by Rubens, and the facial detail is dramatically different from the Del Prado composition indication that neither is a direct copy of the other. Rubens painted a similar half-length version in 1613, which is at the Museo Del Prado. presented in a vintage ebonized and gilded frame. Dimensions: approx. 29.5" x 23" framed
