Description: An enormous oil on canvas painting of Sir Edward Clarke, the Lord Mayor of London, from the 17th century. Clarke began his career as a merchant and went on to become a Whig, a councillor, the sheriff of London, a director of the Bank of England, and a knight before being appointed mayor between 1696 and 1697. Three-quarter length portrait of outstanding quality and preservation. Inscribed on the frame is an artist's plaque. Size: about 50" by 47" when framed
