Description: Large 18th Century portrait of American Major General Sir William Pepperrell, oil on canvas. Excellent quality and condition half length portrait in a feigned oval of Pepperrell in uniform. Probably painted in 1749 by Bardwell during his visit to London following his success in King George's War after siege at Louisbourg. Artists authentication with Christies and further traditional identification and provenance with specialist Matthew Charlton & The Thomas Kerr Collection. Presented in a good gilt frame, unsigned.
