Description: Oil on canvas, large-scale portrait of American major general Sir William Pepperrell from the 18th century. Excellent quality and condition half-length portrait of Pepperrell in uniform in a phony oval. Bardwell most likely created this painting around 1749 while on a visit to London after his victory in King George's War during the siege at Louisbourg. Christies provides artists' authenticity services, while Matthew Charlton, a specialist, and The Thomas Kerr Collection provide conventional identification and provenance. Unsigned and presented in a nice gilded frame. Dimensions: approximately 36" x 31" framed
