Year: 18th century
Size: 34" x 29"
Medium: Oil
Description: Huge oil on canvas portrait of Thomas Paget, Marquess of Anglesey and Governor of Minorca, from the 18th century. A fine example of a portrait in excellent condition, showing the young Marquess and Governor with a large wig and crimson robes. The governor was a well-known military figure who served under the Duke of Marlborough, leading both the 22nd Regiment of Foot and the 7th Dragoons Guards. In addition, he was an Ilchester MP. Although we have reframed it, the portrait is exactly as we discovered it. Origin: Paris, France; from the estate of a deceased person. The previous frame was replaced despite its degradation, but the plaque was kept. After acquiring the image from a London dealer in the 1980s, the previous owner had kept it with the family estate. Measuring approximately 34" by 29" when framed.
