Description: Fine early 16th Century German Old Master portrait of the wife of Martin Luther, oil on panel. Important and early German renaissance portrait of the wife of the famous theologian and leading figure of the protestant reformation. Good original condition, natural craquelure with fine lines of the wood grain visible. Painted with exceptional draughtsmanship in the detail of the face and a bright palette typical of the pigments in German renaissance painting. Cranach had a large workshop producing various compositions of the same subject meaning the piece may have a closer link to him and his studio. Framed.
