Description: Large oil on canvas representation of the virgin martyr Saint Catherine of Alexandria by an Italian Old Master artist from the 17th century. A beautiful illustration of Catherine of Alexandria before her martyrdom from around 1620 that shows her gazing above. In around 305, on the orders of the Roman Emperor Maxentius, the princess of Alexandria, Egypt, was beheaded while still wearing her crown. This piece, which was commissioned from Reni's workshop or studio around 1620, is from Reni's active period and is a larger version of the piece housed in the National Trust Collection. It also features various modifications. displayed in a beautiful gold frame. Dimensions: approximately 57" x 41" framed
