Description: Fine large 17th century Italian Old Master depiction of the 2nd Century Soldier Saint and martyr Saint Eustace, oil on canvas. Full length devotional scene of the soldier who is recognised as the Parton saint of firefighters and hunters. Depicted in full armour he and his family were tortured and murdered by Emperor Hadrian for refusing to worship the pagan gods. They were placed into a Brazen Bull and burned though the flames did not harm them. Here he holds the banner of the bull with Sicilian bulls in the distance. Important and rare piece of iconography of the saint, excellent condition for its age and ready to hang. Measurements: 40" x 30" framed approx
