Description: Thomas Buttersworth is credited with painting this early 19th-century maritime scene from the Battle of the Nile in 1798. This is a superb early historical depiction of the infamous nighttime battle between the French and British navies along the Nile Delta on August 3, 1798, which raged for three days along the Mediterranean coast. This composition is typical of the maritime paintings by Buttersworth from the era, who created a variety of battle scenarios, including ones featuring smaller warships as depicted in this composition. With one little scratch, it is framed and in good shape for its age. Dimensions: Approximately 70 x 50 cm when framed
