Description: Fine large ealy 20th Century portrait of a gentleman, believed to be Sherlock Holmes, on a hillside smoking beside a spaniel at night, oil on canvas by John R Koopman. Excellent atmospheric large scale scene with the gentleman lighting his pipe and a low full moon on the horizon. Purchased by its previous owner from a UK fine art dealer as Koopmans depiction of Sherlock Holmes, possibly a scene from The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place. Subsequently also traditionally identified by a fine art specialist as Holmes. Excellent original condition, signed bottom left, gilt frame. Measurements: 44" x 35.5" framed
