This shipwreck narrative has an Americana feel to it because of the victim's interactions with the Indians in the Virginia Tidewater area. London dramatist William Rufus Chetwood has been credited with writing this play, which was first published in 1720. "In May 1689, an Englishman named Falconer arrived in Boston. He left early June for Virginia. He was grounded off the coast of Cape Charles. Falconer was attacked by the Indians, according to Chetwood's story, and he was taken prisoner, stripped, and tied to a pole. When he demonstrated to the Indians how to "let blood," he was eventually set free. - Clark Jr.
