Description: Fine huge 19th century sunset view of a ship turning at sunset in the Gulf Of Genoa, oil on canvas by Julius Köhnholz. Magnificent scale example of the artists romantic coastal paintings from the Italian Riviera often in moonlit or at sunset. Good condition for its age, signed and full inscribed on the artists label verso. Presented in its original handmade antique gilt frame. Kohnholz started life leaving Germany to work as a merchant near Bari and Naples. There he fell in love with the Italian coast whilst becoming an accomplished painter.
