Description: Large 19th century sunset landscape of titled "Lake Asphaltites" (modern name The Dead Sea), oil on canvas by famous German landsape painter Alexus Geyer. Expansive view at the close of the day as a goat herder takes shelter in the shade of a tree with his herd resting around him. Exceptional detailed large scale example of the artists work signed dated and titled. The work is also an important historical account of the region painted shortly before the first early migration of Jewish settlements in 1880 in Ottoman ruled Palestine. Presented in it original antique gilt frame. Measurements: 43" x 30" framed approx
