Description: Large oil painting on canvas by a European Old Master from the Thirty Years War depicting the Battle of Nördlingen. An excellently detailed account of the legendary battle in which the Protestant German and Swedish armies were routed by the Spanish army, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Catholic League. As the Spanish cavalry approach toward the Swedish-held garrison visible on the far hilltop, the sight perfectly illustrates the climax of the conflict. Framed with a verso label.
