Description: Fine large 17th Century Dutch Old Master account of the Battle Of Texel 1673, oil on panel attributed to Ludolf Backhuysen. Excellent large scale and important early depiction of the battle between the Dutch against the allied English and French Navy. The scene depict the Dutch successful preventing the invasion onto Dutch soil. The central ship is the Golden Lion of Cornelis Tromp with the broken masted ship the Royal Prince, flagship of the Admiral Of The Blue, Sir Edward Spragg. Superb condition, typical of Backhuysen's best work, though unsigned it is typical of his battle compositions. Framed. Measurements: 40" x 32" framed approx
