Year: 19th century
Size: 34" x 26"
Medium: Oil
Description: Huge oil on canvas painting ascribed to Thomas Luny from the 19th century depicts Santisima Trinidad before her capture at the Battle of Trafalgar. A superbly written and significant historical account of the Spanish first-rate liner's final act before being captured by the British ship HMS Neptune. The Santisima Trinidad was the most heavily armed ship in the history of the Age of Sail, holding the most guns. Although unsigned, the piece is conceptually the same as Luny's historical naval paintings. Given that Luny would only sign for one item, and this is the companion piece, it is most likely one of a pair. With plaque and in its original frame, it is in good shape for its age. Dimensions: approximately 34" x 26" framed
