Description: Oil on canvas painting by Jean Jacques Henner depicting the Death of Saint Sebastian on a large scale. Scene of Saint Sebastian's body being taken down from the tree and being lamented by two persons in the shadows is in good quality and preservation. It surprisingly ignores the traditional usage of arrows and blood in depictions of the subject and concentrates only on the human body. Sloane Street Auctions has credited this lovely specimen of the artist's work. presented in an exquisite old gilded frame. The piece is perhaps the initial research for the one that is currently on display in the Musee National in France. Dimensions: approx. 45" x 35" framed
