Description: Large oil painting by Jean Jacques Henner from the 19th century depicting the Death of Saint Sebastian. Scene of Saint Sebastian's body being taken down from the tree and mourned by two shadowy figures in good quality and preservation. It doesn't include the normal arrows and blood that artists generally use when painting this subject; instead, it concentrates mostly on the body. A stunning illustration of the artist's creation, as confirmed by Sloane Street Auctions. Arrived in an exquisite old gilded frame. It is most likely the initial research for the current piece housed in the French museum, the Musee National.
