Description: Large 18th century English oil on canvas depiction of The Infant Jupiter. Early and significant work depicting a young Jupiter seated at the base of a rock and gazing back at the scene, accompanied by a goat and guarded by an eagle while grasping his lightning bolts. In 1816, one of the multiple versions of the composition created by Reynolds was obliterated by fire. Once professionally cleansed, the accumulation of stained varnish will reveal the natural pigments and enhanced detail. It also retains its original handcrafted antique gilded frame. Excellent original condition. Approximate measurements: 39" x 34" when framed
