Description: Fine large 17th Century English School Old Master portrait of the final painting of King Charles I, oil on canvas. Close perspective study of the last known painting for the king taken from a larger composition of Charles I in attendance with James, Duke of York, 1633 - 1701, commissioned in 1647 by the Earl of Northumberland. After his defeat at The Battle of Naseby the King was taken prisoner and moved to Hampton Court where the sitting for this work was undertaken. Loose gilt frame. Christies stencil number verso. Good clean condition for its age. Measurements: 85cm x 75cm framed approx
