Measurements: 6 by 8 3/4" The historian Matteo Villani lived in Italy from 1283 to 1363. Villani, the brother of historian Giovanni, was born in Florence. As the representative for Buonaccorsi in Naples, he was employed by the corporation. Eleven volumes of the Nuova Cronica were written by him after his brother passed away. Critics commended his dedication to researching the facts and finding sources; of particular significance was the section on the 1348 epidemic, which appears amid the genre clichés and offers an existential analysis of existence. In 1363, a plague outbreak claimed his life.
